Lukas was born to his father Niki Lauda and his mother Marlene Knaus on April 5, 1979, in Salzburg, Austria. His dad Niki was born in Vienna, Austria, and his mom Marlene, a former model and a photographer was born in Valdivia, Chile.

The former flames first met at the actor Curt Jurgens’ Party in 1975 and they tied the knot on March 11, 1976. After two years of their marriage, they welcomed their first son Lukas in 1979 and their second son Mathias was born in 1981.

Lauda’s Dad Niki Died at 70

Niki died at the age of 70 on May 20, 2019, at the University Hospital of Zurich due to a kidney problem. He passed away in his sleep while undergoing dialysis treatment for kidney problems.

During his funeral, his sons Lukas and Mathias placed his helmet on the coffin at St Stephen’s cathedral. Many grievers made their presence during the memorial.

He got into a serious car accident in 1976 which partially damaged his lungs and in the same year, his kidney stopped working. For the first time, the late avid racer underwent a kidney transplant in 1997 when his brother Florian donated a kidney to him. The next transplant was done in 2005 and the kidney donor was his second wife Birgit Wetzinger.

After that in 2018, Niki had his lung transplant at Vienna General Hospital.
